Application
Guide: High Performance Industrial Coatings
(Anti-Corrosive)
|
Background:
|
|
:In high performance,
anti-corrosive coatings, wollastonite has extensive history
as successful functional filler. Both treated and non-treated
versions are utilized in solvent and water-borne systems. Within
these resin types, wollastonite finds use in barrier coatings
and inhibitive metal primers.
The main attributes
for wollastonite are its alkaline pH, particle shape and excellent
weatherability.

Observations: |
|
Wollastonite
with low to moderate aspect ratio (i.e. 5:1 and
9:1) would provide superior appearance with very good flow properties.
Gloss control is generally the first observation. Wollastonite
can be used to substitute for part of the hardener to create flattening.
When trying to preserve high gloss, wollastonite may not be recommended.
Wollastonite
and mica can be used to create special effects and in some cases
surface treatment chemistries can be applicable.
